Washington, DC - The Syrian American Council, America's largest and oldest grassroots Syrian American group, condemns the Assad regime's latest attack on a packed open-air market that murdered 65 civilians and wounded over 250 innocents this past Friday. The attack deliberately targeted civilians and included a barrage of airstrikes, mortars and artillery fire on the packed marketplace. It was only the latest regime massacre to take place in the Damascus suburb of Douma, which has suffered from siege, bombardments, and chemical attacks for the past four years.

The Syrian American Council, America's largest and oldest grassroots Syrian American organization, strongly condemns the air strikes carried out by Russian warplanes in Syria on Sept. 30. The air strikes came hours after the Russian parliament unanimously approved an authorization for the use of force in Syria. Warplanes were dispatched to carry out air strikes ostensibly to assist the Assad regime against the Islamic State.
The Syrian American Council (SAC), America's largest Syrian-American community organization, today renews its demand for an immediate no-fly zone following the massacre of over 80 Syrian civilians during an Assad regime air strike on the Damascus suburb of Douma. Thirty-five children were among the dead, and an additional 325 people were injured. A marketplace was deliberately targeted during rush hour so as to maximize civilian casualties. Air strikes have continued throughout the night.
The Syrian American Council, America's largest and oldest Syrian American grassroots organization, welcomes the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2235. The resolution creates a mechanism to assign responsibility for chemical attacks in Syria. It comes four months after the passage of UNSC Resolution 2209, which condemned chlorine gas attacks in Syria and introduced a "Chapter VII" U.N. mandate enforceable by military action.Read more
