Earthquake Crisis Response

ACS Update: Turkiye-Syria Earthquake Response

The American Coalition for Syria is actively monitoring the situation in Turkiye and Syria following the devastating series of earthquakes on February 6, 2023. Our collective hearts and thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. As the nation’s largest advocacy organization, ACS will be focused on the following activities in support of recovery efforts:

  1. Disseminate important information, including where and how to assist those affected, to the Syrian American community via daily updates on various email and social media platforms. Make sure to sign up for our email list at https://www.sacouncil.com/ (top of page) and follow us on

    Twitter: @acsyria, IG: @acsyria, and FB: https://www.facebook.com/americancoalitionforsyria

  2. Connect relevant Syrian American and Syrian organizations, especially those on the ground assisting with recovery efforts, with U.S. policymakers and the media, to share their stories and highlight their work. For those representing aid or recovery organizations on the ground who wish to be connected, please get in touch with us at https://www.sacouncil.com/ so we can add you to our Syria Earthquake Recovery list of organizations.

  3. Advocate directly with U.S. officials to ensure that Syrians in Turkiye and in northern Syria receive the support they need, including heavy equipment to aid in recovery and debris removal efforts, shelter, and long-term services. ACS will also look for opportunities in the near future to bring relevant U.S. aid agencies and the Syrian community together for joint briefings.

  4. A grassroots campaign urging community members to send letters to their local representatives to advocate for humanitarian assistance for earthquake victims in Turkiye and Syria.
